Mammography has a long history and has been confirmed to be an effective tool for breast cancer screening/detection in many countries.

The breasts are compressed at different angles to produce x ray images.  Although it may be slightly uncomfortable, the whole process is very short.  It can help detect microcalcifications, architectural distortions or irregular densities.

Ultrasound is a high-frequency sound wave, much higher than the range that humans can hear. It can penetrate skin and soft tissues.

Ultrasound can create images of solid organs such as the liver, gallbladder, pancreas, kidney, uterus, ovaries, and breasts.

Breast imaging commonly includes ultrasound and mammography.  If your doctor identifies suspicious lesions, tissue sampling would be recommended for further investigation.

Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA):
The doctor uses a fine needle to directly puncture the breast to take cell samples, just likely taking blood.

Core Biopsy:
Core biopsy requires local anaesthetic and a tiny incision would.  It can extract more tissue and can distinguish whether cancer cells are invasive or not.

Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scanning is a type of nuclear medicine scan.  A small quantity of radioactive isotope is required to detect metabolic abnormalities and help detect tumors or metastasis.
