What is Hysterosalpingography?
Hysterosalpingography involves the use of X-ray imaging and contrast to evaluate the structure of the fallopian tube & uterus.
How is an HSG done?
The Female Radiologist will put a speculum into your vagina to expose the cervix. A thin silicone / latex tube is then put through the cervix into the uterus. Contrast will be injected through the flexible tube. X-Ray images are then taken to diagnose whether the fallopian tubes are patent or whether the uterus is structurally abnormal.
You may feel mild cramps during and a few hours after the procedure.
Preparation before Hysterosalpingography
- It is necessary to avoid sex from the first day of the menstrual period to the day of the examination.
- The best time for the test is around Day 10 of your menstrual cycle.
- Doctor may prescribe some antibiotics for you.
- Please inform doctor if you have contrast allergy history
